Day 17: Graphing Guide

070907graphimage.JPGStudents started today’s class by learning how to best approach complex derived quantity problems with the metric system. We walked through a couple of problems and showed why it is best to first convert all values into the necessary units and then plug those values into the formula. Students then turned in the Metric Measurement Post-Lab that was due today.

Students spent most of today’s class period on graphing by recording information on the Graphing Guide. We discussed the three main types of graphs (bar graph, pie chart, and line graph) and when it is best to use each of the three types. For a full copy of the notes, see the Graphing Guide Key. We then completed an example together regarding plan growth and fertilizer.

Homework: Students were given a half-sheet of graph paper along with a half-sheet of time and temperature data (see the Graphing Homework) they are to graph. Remember to scale the axes in a way that allows your graph to fill as much of the paper as possible. This graph is due in class on Monday.

Also made available on Friday is the Study Guide for the first test. Remember the first test is on Thursday (09/13) and we will review in class and after school (3:15-4:00) on Wednesday.
