Day 12: Metric Conversions
By Mr. G on Aug 30, 2007 in Physical Science, Featured
How do mass and weight differ? That was the opening question of today’s lesson and led into a discussion of gravity, forces, and matter. Students were reminded that the daily opener questions always make great test questions (hint) so being involved in those discussions is very beneficial in more ways than one.
We then went on to discuss derived measurements in the metric system: area, volume, density, and volume. To close class, we discussed conversions between metric prefixes. For a view of all slides, check out the Metric Conversion Graphic Organizer and accompanying slides that we viewed in class today and recorded on the Metric System Notes Guide.
As homework, students were assigned the Metric Conversions Practice problem set. For class periods 2-6, this handout is due at the start of tomorrow’s (Friday) class and we will have a quiz over the same material. For period 7, we did not have time to tackle this problem set due to the assembly and thus will complete it tomorrow with the quiz on Tuesday.
